Weekly Scout Post--November 14, 2017

Post date: Nov 15, 2017 4:59:08 AM

November Pack Meeting-November 28th Dads (or uncles, big brothers, grandpas...) and Lads... get your CAKE on!! It's time for our annual Dad & Lad Cake Bake! Get creative and bring your best delicacy to the Pack Meeting! It does not have to be a cake - brownies, cupcakes, etc. are all acceptable, but please NO NUTS! All cakes will be judged by Den (including a sibling class) on the following categories: Most Original, Best Looking, Best Scouting ThemePine Wood Derby kits will be handed out to scouts, siblings, and other family members in exchange for TWO CANNED GOODS (each person) to support our local food banks.

We will also be entertained with skits from the Wolves den and songs from our AOL den.

Support the seniors in our community by donating toiletries for the Evergreen Senior Resource Center. We’ll be collecting all types of toiletries for our local seniors in time for Christmas. Scouts are also encouraged to make a Christmas card to include in the baskets.

The PIE IN THE FACE for our top 6 popcorn sellers has been moved to our January Pack Meeting when our favorite target…ahem… Pack leader will be back in town. 😉

Thank You Volunteers

We want to thank our new volunteer, Raven Moser, for stepping into the role of webmaster. We appreciate you joining our team to make this Pack successful, and keeping our information up to date.

2017 Conifer Holiday ParadeThank you Mike & Christina Hayden for taking the lead in designing and organizing the scout’s participation in the 2017 Conifer Holiday Parade. You all submitted creative ideas around the theme of the parade. It is nice to see that the 80’s are still alive in the hearts and minds of our Pack. The parade will be December 2nd. More details to come.December Pack Meeting

As in years past, our December Pack Meeting will take place at Elk Run Senior Center in Evergreen where we traditionally call BINGO for their residents. This is always a fun event and the residents love it! More details to come. Bingo is set for December 5 and 19th at 6:15. Tiger dens are scheduled for the 5th, and the Webelos & AOL dens are scheduled for the 19th. Wolves and Bears are welcome on either date.

Skate Night 2018

The first den meeting of the 2018 year will be a night of skating on Evergreen Lake. Join us Tuesday, January 2nd at the lake. The date is tentative depending on the lake’s condition. More details to come. Do not miss out on this wonderful event!!!

Derby TimeStart your engines…Our annual Pinewood Derby is coming up F-A-S-T! It will be held on Saturday, January 27th. ALL cars MUST be checked in and weighed on Friday evening, January 26th between 6:00 & 8:00pm. If your car is not checked in during this time, it cannot participate in the race.We will be having a Derby Workshop on Saturday, January 20th at Aspen Ridge Church (downstairs fellowship hall near the windows). If you need assistance completing your car, come on by - there are lots of hands to help. For complete rules and information, be sure to check the Pinewood Derby link on our website.

There will be three divisions for the race:

The Scout Derby - with the three fastest cars qualifying for prizes, and winners from each den for speed and creativity.

The Sibling Derby - Scout brothers and sisters through fifth grade can enter their own cars. Kids in sixth grade or above will be placed in the parent division.

The Parent Derby - with the leaders and parents competing against each other. (Time permitting)

And one extra contest for fun:

The Ladies Derby - What would a derby be without appropriate attire? Ladies, this is the opportunity to show off your homemade derby hat! Winning look gets a gift card.

February Recharter

Our annual Recharter happens every year in February. Your den leaders will be sharing with you a spreadsheet that shows the amount your family owes for 2018 dues. These amounts include district dues as well as Pack dues. The maximum amount that anyone will owe is $150 for the year (the only other amount you would owe on top of this is $12 should you choose to subscribe to the Boys Life publication).

Those that met the popcorn selling goal of $650 will not owe anything (unless they want Boys Life). Those that sold SOME popcorn will pay a percentage of the $150. Those that did not sell any popcorn will cover the entire amount.

Youth Protection Training

We take our scouts’ safety seriously. True youth protection can be achieved only through the focused commitment of everyone in Scouting. It is the mission of Youth Protection volunteers and professionals to work within the Boy Scouts of America to maintain a culture of Youth Protection awareness and safety at the national, regional, area, council, district, and unit levels.

More information and links to this training are located HERE.

Class A Uniforms

Remember that your Scouts can wear their Class A uniforms to school on days when they will be meeting as a Den or a Pack. This helps show pride in the Scouting organization, and helps other kids gain interest. Please be sure your Scout wears his uniform properly. This means the shirt should be clean, ironed and tucked in. To help them understand why this is important, perhaps you can draw an analogy of what their thoughts might be if .they were to see a police officer with his/her uniform shirt untucked. Or a business man (perhaps even their dad) going to a business meeting with his dress shirt untucked. Encourage them to proudly wear their Scout uniform and positively represent our Pack!

Class B Uniforms & Pack 39 Patches

Class B shirts will be available at Pack Meetings for $15 each. We have an assortment of kids and adult sizes. In addition, we have exclusive "Pack 39" patches for $3 each. Please see a Den Leader or our Treasurer at the next Pack meeting if you'd like to purchase any of these items.
